JOB DESCRIPTION Grounds-person

Responsible to:
Estates Manager

Main Purpose of the Job:

To work under the direction of the Estates Manager to maintain and improve the grounds of Truro HighSchool, the school all weather pitch, netball and tennis courts and school playing field.


Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours per week, all year.

Duties may include:

1. To mow all grassed areas, maintain the edges and practice good lawn and turf care.

2. To mark out and maintain all sports pitches.

3. To maintain flower beds, borders, hedges, trees and shrubs to enhance the external appearance of the School.

4. To stake and prune trees and shrubs, replant, weed and reseed as necessary.

5. To mark out, clear and maintain as necessary other hard surfaces including pathways.

6. To create and maintain good drainage of the grounds.

7. To prepare for use and preserve the synthetic sports surfaces and their surrounds and equipment according to the manufacturers instructions.

8. To be responsible for the erection and dismantling of nets and various sports equipment as necessary.

9. To maintain equipment and machinery in good working order to ensure it meets proper safety standards and is stored securely.

10. To salt and grit pathways, driveways and playing surfaces as necessary.

11. To observe the Schools Policies at all times, in particular the Schools Health and Safety Policy.

12. To undertake any training necessary to meet the demands of the job and the School.

13. To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head or Bursar from time to time.


As a member of the School's Estates team there may be occasions where the post holder is required to undertake additional, non-grounds based tasks to support the smooth operation of the School.


  • The postholder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the Schools Child Protection Policy statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the postholder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school s/he must report any concerns to his/her Line Manager or the School's Safeguarding Lead._
