Northumbria Students' Union is looking for an experienced Sales & Events Coordinator to drive Students' Union advertising in sales & events.

You will also be required to assist with enquiries and day to day administration as well as maintain existing relationships with clients and source new clients.

You will work directly with the Sales & Events Manager who is used to handling the booking process from sales enquiry, through negotiation and contracting, and to planning and executing the final event.

You will also be required to assist the Sales & Events manager in event set-up.


You will also work closely with the Marketing team to promote the Event Northumbria brand both locally and nationally, network with other venues and bookers within the city, and develop great working relationships with our existing and future clients ensuring their loyal repeat custom.

This role allows for innovation and would be ideal for someone looking to make the position their own.

An opportunity to help lead our sales & events business from the front, whilst being supported by the Northumbria team.


You should be passionate about achieving a consistently exceptional customer experience, self-motivated and able to drive the marketing and sales for this area of our commercial operation and confident in working with a diverse range of clients, including students.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

Generating income

  • Coordinate events admin by responding to customer enquiries.
  • To drive and manage all advertising sales to the student market within the Students' Union ensuring that agreed targets are delivered throughout the year, with specific focus on Freshers Week activity.
  • Manage and maintain internal room bookings.
  • Assist the Sales and Events Manager in event set up and coordination.
  • To be present on the day of events and conferences, as required, in order to ensure that the total service provision is coordinated with other departments and colleagues, and to meet the organiser.
  • Provide holiday/sickness cover for Sales and Events Manager.
  • To maximise and exceed targets through building partnerships with clients and developing advertising and sponsorship packages to meet clients' requirements and needs.
  • Share responsibility, alongside Sales and Event Coordinator and Head of Marketing, for the SU. Sales inbox to effectively manage sales enquires.
  • To drive annual sales income targets within for all advertising to include, annual campaigns, publication advertising, contracts, sponsorships, social and digital advertising, events, stalls, and other promotional opportunities.
  • To find new business opportunities by meeting businesses, networking and by creating high impact publicity to generate sales.
  • Liaise with the Digital Media Coordinator to ensure advertising is scheduled on the Unions digital media in line with client agreements and contracts.
  • Work with the Digital Media Coordinator to maintain content for the Event Northumbria website and social media.
  • To continually source new and innovative commercial opportunities to increase revenue for the Students' Union.
  • To liaise with institutions in the Northeast to maximise income locally.

Customer Care

  • Manage and maintain excellent working relationships with all key external event stakeholders and suppliers including Kudos, Chartwells, Showsec etc.
  • Manage and maintain excellent working relationships with all key advertising contracts such as Seed, The Student Marketing Company, Redbus, Popcorn Media, Campus Group etc.
  • To ensure excellent customer service is provided as per the Unions Customer Service Charter achieved via regular meetings, maintaining good communication, ensuring satisfaction, and building customer loyalty.
  • To manage and maintain the customer client database and ensure that it is used to its full potential.

Finance

  • To ensure the Finance Department receives all necessary financial information regarding advertising sales and ensure financial regulations and procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure that all income targets are met, monitored, and regularly reviewed.
  • To advise the Senior Leadership Team and elected officers of new opportunities for developing new sales or alternative commercial revenue streams within the Students' Union.

Secondary and Other Duties

  • To liaise with the Marketing Manager to ensure all advertising complies with specified printing schedules and deadlines for Students' Union publications.
  • To provide administrative staff support to the Marketing Department and Commercial Services.
  • To commission advertising and promotional materials as and when required.
  • To proof publications and publicity when required by the Marketing Manager.
  • To undertake such duties with full regard to Northumbria Students' Union's Equal Opportunity Policy.
