The role of Technical Clerk is to work collaboratively within the QA department to ensure all Quality related project documentation is checked for legibility, accuracy and completeness and filed as required.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Performing a basic technical and quality check of steel fabrication documentation and quality records (i.e. material certificates, engineering drawing mark ups, welding and inspection documentation in accordance with project requirements), highlighting errors and following documents through corrections until submission to client.
- Maintaining tracking registers and spreadsheets (in Microsoft excel) of progress reporting of documentation completeness and actively following up any issues.
- Assisting Weld Inspectors in producing, reviewing, scanning, distributing, filing, and archiving of completed Quality documents.
- Assist with completion of the quality department project records both paper and electronic files.
- Deputising for the QA Certification Cocoordinator in their absence.
- Assisting with document control activities as required.
- Assisting with administrative support during client / customer audits / visits
- Assist in development and implementation of project procedures, forms, and work instructions with a view to improving these to reflect internal/external best practices
- Provide training to other departments in good record keeping
Primary Objectives
- Assist in reviewing and managing fabrication records.
- Work closely within the Quality Department / production department to ensure all Quality records and documentation is stored appropriately to ensure it is retrievable and traceable.
- Developing and maintaining the Quality departments documentation / folders structure in an orderly manner
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Be able to work on own initiative and comfortable as part of a team
- Good attention to detail and solution driven
- A logical and methodical and commonsense approach to workload and ability to take initiative.
- A basic knowledge of Fabrication/Welding or technical documentation (advantageous) or willingness/ability to learn. (i.e. engineering drawings, welding and NDT requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Administrative experience with a good working knowledge of document and records control.
- Ideally a minimum of 13 years' experience working within a similar role.
- Role would likely suit someone with some additional background experience in the marine or engineering industries/disciplines.
