Job Introduction

With 13 SSSI's, SPAs, RAMSARsites and Local Nature Reserves, our sites have extensive areas under agri-environmental schemes using cattle, ponies, sheep and goats for conservation grazing.

Role Purpose
The Grazing Ranger helps to deliver the conservation grazing management on our Countryside sites.


This includes engaging with stakeholders about sustainable habitat management through grazing livestock and improving the biodiversity of our Countryside sites.

Our extensive livestock across many urban nature reserves require daily checking, observation and practical management. Ensuring they are healthy, safe and supporting our conservation management objectives.

Main Responsibilities
Carry out the practical delivery of all grazing operations necessary within the Countryside Team to meet the conservation management objectives

Assist the Lead Grazing Ranger in the development and delivery of effective and sustainable conservation grazing.


Ensure best practice, relevant standards and regulations are adhered to including health and safety, cross compliance and ensuring the highest levels of animal welfare are delivered.

Work closely with the Countryside team and partners, seek advice from vets as required, administer basic veterinary medications and treatments.

Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure treatment, movement of livestock and daily checks are well managed.

Engage with stakeholders about sustainable habitat management through grazing livestock and improving the biodiversity of our Countryside sites.

Educate visitors to our sites, work with volunteers and promote an increase in species diversity to combat the ecological emergency.

Work with the Lead Grazing Ranger and in the wider Countryside team, supporting all aspects of conservation management.

You will be able to work effectively both alone and as part of a team effort to ensure our livestock are safe and healthy.


You should have a passion for land management and for animal husbandry, with relevant practical skills and experience to effectively play a key role in the team.

This role works across all of BCP, with a starting base at Kingfisher Barn, Muscliffe, Bournemouth most days.
