Job description

JOB TITLE:
Early Years Practitioner Level 3.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

To individual Team Leader (whatever group you are assigned)

Ultimately responsible to the Nursery Manager.

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsible for ensuring a quality service is offered at all times to Families using the service of Hilton Street Childcare and Community Centre Ashton and District.

By ensuring that Good Practice is adhered to at all times.

Also ensuring Policies i.e. Equal Opportunities, Child protection,


Health & Safety are abided by for the well-being and safety of all children in the care of the Nursery.


MAIN DUTIES:

  • Ensuring the needs of the age mix of children is met at all times.
  • Ensure the environment the children is safe/risk assess on a regular basis.
  • To assist in the planning of programmes and activities for the age mix
  • Ensure you understand the aims/purposes of Early Years Foundation Stage and how to implement them
  • You will be expected to become a Key Worker working with small groups of under 5s.
  • You must ensure each childs learning and development is recorded including any issues or problems.
  • Ensure you communicate with your group of children's parents on a regular basis. Keeping them abreast of their children's overall development.
  • Help with the serving of all meals, ensuring that hygiene practises are abided by at all times.
  • Maintain Health & Safety practises.
  • Understand and comply with Safeguarding Children Policy
  • Understand and comply with Equal Opportunities Policy
  • You must ensure you manage your own Health & Safety by wearing the necessary protective garments
  • Abiding by the Child Behaviour policy and procedure
  • Correct lifting and handling
  • Complete registers, accident reports, medication consent form and cash books or any other everyday administration required
  • Attend staff meetings as required.
  • Work along side apprenticeship learner's sharing your knowledge and skills.
  • Ensure you conduct your self at all times working along side your colleagues in a positive, effective manner.

SCOPE AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY:

The postholder is one of a team of qualified Early Years Practitioners reporting to the Nursery Manager and Assistant Manager

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

NNEB qualified or NVQ 3 or equivalent. Understanding of child development and the role of play and other educational activities.

Understanding of the relevance of childcare legislation and the roles of other statutory and voluntary agencies.

Literacy to a level required for completion of childcare qualification and monitoring records.

EXPERIENCE:


Previous experience of working with children between the ages 0 to 5 years within a childcare play or educational environment.


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Ability to develop adult and child led play suitable to the age group and needs of the children within the post holder's care.


Physically able to participate in play activities and undertake moving of equipment as necessary, go on local nature walks and school runs as and when necessary.


Good communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to develop effective relationships with children and their parents in order to enable a child's development and encourage parental participation.

Post holders are required to have a regular DBS check
