Applications are invited for the post of Research Project Management Officer within Research Services (part of Research & Innovation).

You will be joining Research & Innovation as we further professionalise and extend our service to support the College's research and knowledge exchange ambitions and respond effectively to changes in the external research funding landscape.

Research & Innovation provides quality and timely professional services to academics to support the lifecycle of their research and innovation projects.


The Research Project Management office is a newly formed team with significant project management expertise and is dedicated to supporting major collaborative programmes and projects.

Providing efficient project management support to academic-driven research initiatives the team aims to take the weight off the academics in terms of coordinating the project's administration, releasing them to focus on successfully meeting research deliverable deadlines.


Under the direction of the Head of Strategic Grants and the Research Project Team Manager the post holder will support major College funding awards, working within the Research Project Management Team and with colleagues in Finance towards the development and embedding of good post award practice across the College.


This is a newly created role requiring knowledge and understanding of the UK and international research funding landscape, and research funding governance and compliance requirements.

Your responsibilities will include developing detailed project plans in coordination with project teams, ensuring resource availability and allocation to enable teams to deliver projects on time, within budget and scope.

Developing and maintaining strong relationships externally (with funders including EU, RCUK and major charities) and internally (with key professional services and academic colleagues) to maximise the benefit of projects and ensure delivery of projects in line with funder and College expectations.


You will be working across the Research and Innovation team and with academic and other professional services colleagues at all levels as well as with external partners and funders.

You will provide support at the post-award stage for externally funded grants and provide timely and high-quality project management support and guidance in the delivery of national and international research grants.

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of grants, contracts & awards from a range of funding streams. The role will be responsible for setting up projects, monitoring costs and producing expenditure statements. The post-holder will ensure grant expenditure is in full accordance with College and funder rules.
