Who you'll be working for:

The Borough of Rushmoor was formed in 1974, bringing together the two towns of Aldershot and Farnborough.

At the same time, the former Aldershot Borough Council and the Farnborough Urban District Council joined to become Rushmoor Borough Council.

You will be responsible for:

  • Working with more experienced developers to develop software using industry standard development tools
  • Writing, documenting and testing straightforward code under the supervision of others
  • Supporting and maintaining software by identifying and resolving issues
  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary collaborative team to gather, test and document requirements
  • Assisting the team to design and deliver proof of concepts and demos
  • Attending training, developing skills, shadowing others and building their knowledge

You will need the following skills:

  • Ability to use development technologies and languages, including HTML, CSS, Javascript, SQL, C#
  • Ability to make connections between code and databases
  • Understanding of cybersecurity and accessibility principles
  • Experience working with SQL Server or another relational database
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle, software testing, and problem solving
  • Understanding of agile working practices
  • Understanding of how to build software to business requirements
  • Experience following good coding practices and an understanding of how to use source control
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have a demonstrable interest in IT with an enthusiasm for technology
  • Takes the initiative and can work independently
  • Enjoy problem solving
  • Results oriented lateral thinker, with the capability to assimilate technical knowledge quickly and accurately.

Entry requirements:

  • The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider
  • OR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude test
  • OR 2 years' experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test
You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

Working week:

37 hours per week

QA's apprenticeships are funded by the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), an executive agency of the Department for Education.


To be eligible for a Government funded apprenticeship you must have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 consecutive years.
