An excellent opportunity has arisen to become a valued member of the Business and Private team in our Northern region.


The BPN team works across our Holt and Fakenham offices and whilst the role is primarily office based, our flexible working policy allows a combination of working from home and in either office, to best suit the individual and support the team.


Main responsibilities

Accounts and tax

  • Working with other team members and assisting with the preparation of accounts and tax returns for companies, partnerships, and sole traders.
  • Working within budgets set at the planning stage.
  • Ensuring the efficient use of appropriate software packages internally and supporting clients with the management and proactive use of their accounting systems.
  • Bookkeeping and production of management accounts on appropriate software; primarily QBO, Xero and Sage together with the use of Dext and AutoEntry.

Clients

  • Maintain an up to date understanding of clients' business.
  • Maintain good working relationships with client's and their staff.
  • Liaise with partners and senior staff to provide a high level of client service.
  • Be aware of the wide range of Larking Gowen services and identify opportunities to promote those services to clients.
  • Take an active role in business development and promoting the firm in the local area.

Task management

  • Consistently achieve deadlines and understand the commercial implications of actions relating to productivity, recoverability, fee income and client service.
  • Communicate workload with manager or partner.

Training

  • Attend training courses as identified to develop both technical and personal skills and keep records for compliance purposes.

Other Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the firms' risk management policies and procedures.
  • Undertake other duties to meet the demands of the business.

Personal Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential:

  • Maths and English Language at GCSE or equivalent.
- studying for ACA/ACCA.

Experience

Essential:

  • Strong technical skills in accounts production and preparation of tax returns.
  • Experience using Microsoft packages and cloud accounting software packages such as QBO or Xero.
  • Proven ability to adapt quickly to changing deadlines and priorities.
  • Be able to operate at a high level of confidentiality.

Desirable:

  • Prior experience of dealing with an external client base.
  • A good understanding of the tax issues faced by many of our clients.
  • Assisting junior members of the team to develop knowledge and technical
abilities.
