Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in the London Borough of Bexley is hiring an accomplished Behaviour Teaching Assistant or Behaviour Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant for a temporary contract role.

This full-time position requires immediate availability.

The ideal candidate will offer support to students dealing with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health issues (SEMH), Autism, and challenging behaviors both individually and in small groups.

Responsibilities include managing difficult behaviors in a composed manner, collaborating with educators and support staff on behavior plans, tracking student progress, attending necessary meetings, and ensuring a secure learning environment for all.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH, Autism, and behavior complexities
  • De-escalate challenging behavior in a calm and professional manner
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff on behavior plans
  • Track and report student progress to teachers and parents
  • Attend meetings with parents, teachers, and professionals as needed
  • Support students with EHCPs by meeting their needs and monitoring progress
  • Maintain a safe and encouraging learning environment

Requirements:

  • Prior experience as a Behavior Teaching Assistant / Behavior Mentor / SEN Teaching Assistant in a similar environment
  • Solid understanding of behavior management strategies
  • Experience with SEMH, Autism, and behavior complexities
  • Familiarity with EHCPs and supporting students with these plans
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS check or willing to obtain one promptly
  • Reside within a convenient commuting distance to the London Borough of Bexley
