A Snapshot of your day

We have several trainee design engineer positions available within Siemens Energy, each role will specialise during the development programme to support a specific engineering team within Siemens Energy.

As a trainee design engineer, you will join a large project engineering team delivering both station to station and station to offshore projects within the UK and beyond.

You will be responsible for the study and simulation of the control and protection systems controlling the infrastructure. Initially you will study the effects of the infrastructure on the electricity network it is connected to and the interaction with other power generation systems in the locality. You will then proceed to simulate the power systems to ensure that designed solutions operate as expected when exposed to a variety of network fault and running conditions making use of our real-time simulation equipment within our laboratories.

As a trainee design engineer, you will need to be prepared to continue to learn new tools, techniques and methods throughout your career, and an agile mindset is key to success.

Your profile

An MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Power System Engineering or a higher qualification (PhD or MSc) in the above with a supporting engineering degree 3 A Levels (or equivalent) preferably including Maths and Science. Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery. A passion to work within an agile team environment. Must be flexible and adaptable. Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.

Responsibilities

Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint. An engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes. You will develop these skills through a combination of classroom work and on the job activities at Siemens Energy.
