Position: Nurse Consultant at Pilgrims Hospices

The Nurse Consultant plays a crucial role in delivering top-notch care to patients, supporting other practitioners, and showcasing a high level of professional autonomy especially in palliative care. They are responsible for developing and maintaining a specialist area of interest while assisting the Medical Director and the executive team in realizing the clinical strategy at Pilgrims Hospices.

  • Develop clinical policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and specialists.
  • Lead working parties and champions at the hospice.
  • Specialize in non-malignant conditions and improving access for minority groups.

Main responsibilities of the job:

  • Deliver high-quality patient care independently.
  • Develop and maintain specialty areas of interest.
  • Work with stakeholders to create policies and procedures.
  • Lead teams to enhance standards of practice.
  • Contribute to research and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote a patient-centered environment.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Current NMC Level One Registration.
  • MSc Palliative Care/Advanced Clinical Practice.
  • Advanced Clinical Assessment Skills.
  • Non-medical Prescribing.
  • Advanced Communication Skills.

Desirable:

  • Post-graduate Teaching Qualification.
  • Leadership Qualification.
  • Experience as a Designated Medical Practitioner for non-medical prescribers.

Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in a Specialist Palliative Care Environment.
  • Experience in advanced palliative care practice.
  • Proficiency in clinical knowledge, skills, and IT.
  • Display of sound professional judgment and risk management.
  • Ability to see patients in a holistic context.

Skills and Abilities:

Essential:

  • Base approach on critical inquiry and evidence-based care.
  • Effective record-keeping and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands and build strong relationships.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NHS system.

Desirable:

  • Leadership experience in a voluntary hospice.
  • Experience in a lead role in governance or strategy.
