The purpose of the job is to assist the Biomedical Scientists by way of carrying out procedures in order to aid the provision of a high-quality Microbiology Service across Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be working as part of a vital busy team, assisting the Biomedical Scientists in the investigation of patient samples. You will rotate throughout the laboratory and your role will include checking sample integrity prior to analysis, processing clinical specimens for Bacteriological culture and operating and maintaining laboratory equipment in Bacteriology, Molecular and Serology sections. Additional tasks are stock control and distribution, including the use of automated stock control systems where available. You will also undertake other tasks including receiving specimens, booking specimens onto the laboratory computer system, answering telephone queries and laboratory housekeeping duties.

About you

We are looking for a friendly, conscientious and self-motivated candidate with good organisational and communication skills. You must have excellent attention to detail, a flexible attitude towards work and have experience working within a Microbiology department and managing stock control.

About us

The Microbiology department within The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust comprises two laboratories, based at the Royal Devon Exeter Hospital in Exeter and North Devon District Hospital at Barnstaple. The department has achieved UKAS accreditation to ISO and is an IBMS approved training laboratory.

Working hours per week, Monday - Friday :-:. Working on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays, on a rotational basis is also required for this post. Part time hours will be considered.
