A great opportunity has arisen in our head office in the beautiful market town of Kendal in Cumbria and within our Legal Team for a Senior Legal Officer to assist in relation to information governance, data protection and regulatory matters, i.e. Information Commissioner, and to deputise for the Council's Data Protection Officer (DPO).

To be a success in our Legal Team you will have experience and knowledge in:

  • Information governance, data protection and regulatory matters i.e Information Commissioner, Local Government Ombudsman, including statutory obligations, codes of practice and regulatory guidance.
  • Experience of providing advice/guidance to stakeholders on information governance and data protection compliance.
  • Data breach reporting
  • Developing / awareness of Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)/Data Sharing processes, and provide advice/support on the completion of Data Protection Risk Assessments

    You will be a strong team player with a proven track record of delivering to deadlines, have effective communication skills and be able to use sound judgement to solve problems. You will be used to working in a busy pressurised environment and will enjoy a challenge. Ideally you will have experience of working in a local authority and/or knowledge of local authority governance. A commitment to delivering the best possible service for the benefit of our residents and clients, is required. You must have good IT literacy skills and an ability to use electronic resources for the purpose of research is critical.

    Other duties will include dealing with a range of matter including providing advice to officers and elected members, advising on legal implications in Committee, Council and Cabinet reports, attending Council Committees and working groups as required.
