Enhanced Practitioner (EP) Position at Bristol Heart Institute
Are you a dynamic and innovative professional ready to join our EP Team at the Bristol Heart Institute? We are a close-knit group of 11 nurse Practitioners dedicated to managing patients awaiting or recovering from cardiac surgery. This Band 7 role offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside Registrars, Consultants, and the Intensivist Team in cardiac high dependency areas.
Main Duties of the Job:
- Provide high-quality care to elective and emergency patients undergoing cardiac surgical procedures
- Collaborate across divisions and professions to enhance patient outcomes and resource efficiency
- Deliver evidence-based care, participate in practice audits, research, and service enhancement
- Take on responsibilities traditionally handled by junior medical staff, collaborating closely with Registrars and Consultant Surgeons
The Ideal Applicant Will:
- Be an experienced nurse and Non-Medical Prescriber
- Possess in-depth knowledge of cardiovascular disease and cardiac procedures
- Demonstrate strong clinical, decision-making, and communication skills
- Work effectively in teams and autonomously as needed
- Be committed to ongoing professional development and pursuing a Masters Level qualification
- Have experience in High Dependency and Ward patient care
- Actively contribute to service development and quality enhancement

Qualifications and Training:
Essential
- Registered Nurse 1st Level
- Advanced or Immediate Life Support provider
- Accredited post-registration level 3 educational development
- Non-medical prescribing qualification (B7)
- Physical Assessment and Clinical Reasoning qualification
Desirable
- Health-related diploma, degree, or Masters in a related field
- Willingness to attain non-medical prescribing qualification (B6)
Knowledge and Experience:
Essential
- Extensive experience in caring for cardiac patients
- Recent acute care experience for cardiac surgery patients
- Demonstrated development of clinical expertise
Desirable
- Teaching experience, involvement in professional networks, research background
