An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Coordinator to join our dynamic Haematology/Oncology research team at at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust

Our diverse Research and Innovation directorate provides a high quality clinical and academic research environment, in which children and young people can take part in research programmes safely and effectively, according to robust and ethically approved protocols.

In this varied and challenging post, you will work as a skilled member of the research team, providing a high standard of coordination and data collection for a portfolio of studies, driving forward study set up and the delivery of projects.

Based in central London, GOSH offers flexible working, help with childcare and travel, excellent training and development opportunities and assistance with finding somewhere to live.

Main duties of the job

You will work collaboratively with the lead speciality research nurses and consultants, providing crucial administrative support in the organisation of study start-up activities, maintenance of study databases and ensuring the organisation and booking of patient visits.

You will act as the data lead for a portfolio of studies, responsible for capturing complex clinical data from medical records and research documentation and entering data into eCRF systems ensuring the data is recorded accurately and submitted in a timely manner. You will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to research legislation, working with the clinical team and the Research and Development Office to ensure the timely submission of all relevant documentation.

Academic/Professional qualification/TrainingEssential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent (eg, medical, biomedical, administration / management)
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent experience)
Experience/KnowledgeEssential criteria
  • Experience of working in a clinical trial environment in either a pharmaceutical company, NHS Trust or a university
  • Practical experience of monitoring clinical trial activity or practical experience of the research process or direct involvement in the management / administration of clinical trials
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working, both internally and externally
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the UK/EU legislation for management of clinical research including the Research Governance Framework
  • Experience of working on multiple parallel tasks to strict and often tight deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of the NHS R&D and NIHR structure and functions
  • Knowledge of or experience in taking informed consent to research
Skills/AbilitiesEssential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels
  • Computer literate with good IT skills including the upkeep of databases
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of research studies with minimal supervision
  • Good organisation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure, prioritise workload and plan ahead
  • Ability to coach and mentor senior academic staff including consultants
