How do accounting apprenticeships work?
An apprenticeship in accounting is split between employment with the firm and external studies.

One day a week might be spent working towards accountancy qualifications; the rest is spent working developing practical and relevant skills.


Responsibilities:

  • Working with spreadsheets, ledgers and journals, client's manual records, bank accounts statements
  • Plan workload to ensure efficient use of time and resources, ensuring performance meets chargeable hours targets; achieve agreed recovery rate on all work
  • General office administration duties including updating client records and jobs in lists
  • Filing and archiving of financial statements and accounting files
  • Answering telephone calls in the office and telephoning clients to request information
  • There may be a need to travel to clients' premises, attend company events, some of which may be outside of normal working hours

Essential qualifications/skills:

  • 6 GCSEs at grade 5 or above including Maths and English
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • IT skills with a knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Organisational skills with the ability to work on your own initiative with an eye for attention to detail
  • Full UK driving license or learning to drive
