Job Title: Mental Health Practitioner in Street Triage Team

Are you in search of a unique opportunity? We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Street Triage Team on a permanent basis. In this role, you will collaborate with Thames Valley Police to enhance care pathways for individuals experiencing mental health crises in Oxfordshire.

As a Mental Health professional working alongside the police, your responsibilities will include offering expert advice, triaging individuals, accessing health information systems, and facilitating communication with other care services to identify suitable support. Additionally, you will engage in information sharing with the Police concerning individuals with Mental Health needs, providing support and education to enhance police understanding of mental health requirements.

The primary objective of this service is to partner with the police to enhance the overall experience and access to appropriate care pathways for individuals with mental health concerns in crisis situations. Collaborating with the police officers on the frontline, you will assist in acute mental health presentations and contribute to risk assessment and management at critical junctures.

  • Assisting with risk assessment and management at the point of crisis
  • Being part of an all-age, inclusive service

Job Responsibilities:

The Street Triage teams operate out of Thames Valley Police stations across various regions in Oxfordshire. Your work will involve responding to incidents alongside police officers and utilizing their systems effectively to provide optimal support. The Street Triage service functions seven days a week, responding to incidents throughout Oxfordshire.

Person Specification:

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles

Desirable

  • Familiarity with community services
  • Awareness of national and local mental health issues
  • Experience in community work with individuals with mental health needs

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Professional (Mental Health, Social Worker, or OT)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Relevant post-registration experience

  • Additional post-registration training/development evidence
  • Management qualification experience
  • Teaching and assessment qualifications relevant to the profession
