Our portfolio areas are making the shift from programme and project structures to multidisciplinary product teams, and we are growing our digital capability to ensure our products and services deliver real value for their users and continuously improve to better meet their needs.

With this in mind, we an opportunity for a Lead Agile Coach to support the drive for digital transformation, acting in a central role, supporting our portfolio areas.

The focus for our Lead Agile Coaches will be to:

  • Lead on enterprise-level capability development, having a key role in substantively supporting the digital transformation of Product and Platforms. Rolling out and sustaining Agile ways of working and building Agile capability across the portfolio areas.
  • Act in a facilitative leadership role, building alignment and mobilisation of our leadership in owning and actively engaging in capability development within and across the portfolio areas. Coaching leadership on developing the mindset and conditions for successful transformation.
  • Advise on the strategic approach to professional development, for our Delivery Managers and substantively support their development and growth of their professional communities.
Our product portfolio areas include:

Digital Citizen Health – delivering citizen-facing national digital channels and services including , NHS App, and NHS login.

Digital Primary Care – delivering new capabilities to support the digital transformation of primary care and wider community pharmacy, optometry and dentistry.

Data and Analytics - The national custodian for health and care data. Its User Centred Design team plays a crucial role, supporting a wide variety of programmes and services across the entire data life course.

Digital Urgent and Emergency Care – ensuring best use of digital technology in urgent and emergency care to get patients the right help, in the right place, at the right time.

Screening and Vaccinations – delivering the next generation of digital services to support the national screening and national vaccination and immunisation programmes.

Platforms – Providing the core platforms that connect digital services across the health and care system. It builds interoperable platforms, develops open standards and application programming interfaces (APIs), and supports cloud-based technologies.

Enabling Products – delivering digital interoperability across the providers of the wider health and care system, including core national products to enable secondary care appointment management (Wayfinder), bookings, referrals, prescriptions, child protection, child health and medicines management.

Demographics – provides and manages the register of NHS numbers and associated demographic patient data used by all authorised health and care professionals when providing direct care.

As an Agile Coach you will:

  • Build partnerships with portfolio leadership to deliver value across a suite of related products or services using Agile ways of working
  • Advise on selection and implementation of appropriate Agile and Lean methods, techniques, approaches, frameworks, and practices to address portfolio area and team(s) needs
  • Work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting leadership and teams by facilitating adoption and catalysing maturity across the organisation
  • Mentor mindset change within the organisation; coaching teams and leaders on the mindset change required to transform their existing practices, and be effective in an increasingly uncertain context
  • Be responsible for upskilling of and competence transfer to other Agile roles (e.g. Delivery Managers)
  • Support the removal of systemic impediments preventing teams from embracing Agile way of work.
  • Build strong relationships within the delivery community to motivate and support the adoption of Agile and Lean across the organisation and facilitate coaching networks to share successes and learnings and to improve related practices and knowledge.
About you

Some of the skills and experience we're looking for from our Agile Coaches:

  • Be experienced in creating lasting transformation towards Agile and Lean ways of working to deliver efficiently and maximise outcomes, incl. scaling agility to multiple user-centred design and development teams
  • Know and deeply understand Agile and Lean frameworks, values and principles. Significant experience in applying this knowledge in practice
  • Know and experience in setting up, conducting and sustaining change within complex/highly regulated organisations (ideally public sector) empirically. Helping the organisation navigate the change through facilitation, guidance, experimentation and overcoming tensions and conflict. Can inspire others to change and align people around a shared purpose
  • Can conduct coaching process with teams or individuals. Creates the right environment for coaching and helps the coaches take action
  • Can facilitate group interactions to increase collaboration and generate outcomes effectively. Designs the sessions, creates an appropriate environment and guides the organisation through the process
  • Can effectively share own knowledge and experience with others through training, one-on-one mentoring and other means. Can design and deliver training to the organisation's needs in a wide spectrum of topics related to Agile, Lean, Delivery Management or Product Management
