This exciting role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and enhance your understanding of all aspects of Breast and endocrine surgery.This post is ideal for someone who is aiming to complete their training and to make the transition to independent practice. The job plan includes participation in up to 7 theatre sessions weekly covering the full range of breast cancer resectional and reconstructive surgery as well endocrine surgery for both benign and malignant conditions. You will be allocated set clinic templates and be expected to provide support to our team of allied health professionals including breast care nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, junior doctors and physician associates. The post holder is expected to develop their leadership and teamwork skills through rota management, participation in our academic and audit programme as well as through engagement in theatre, outpatients and on the ward.

Main duties of the job

SpR level (ST6 equivalent or above) in Breast and Endocrine duties are:

Caring for outpatients

The individual will be allocated set clinics as defined in their job plan The individual will see new patients in the 2-week rule pathway They will also see routine follow-ups They are expected to explain results to patients either at the time of new diagnosis or post surgery There will be opportunities to see patients who require or have undergone reconstructive breast surgery There will be opportunities to manage patients who seek bilateral breast reduction The job plan allows for time to complete administrative tasks The post holder will receive formal mentorship and support in outpatients. The post holder will be expected to provide support to our team of allied health professionals in outpatients including breast care nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, clinic nurses, junior doctors and physician associates.

General Surgery comprises three firms each with a general surgical commitment and a special interest - Colorectal, Breast and Upper GI.

Job responsibilities

Caring of inpatients

The post-holder will participate in up to 7 theatre sessions covering the full range of breast resectional and reconstructive surgery as well as surgery for benign breast conditions. There will be opportunities to collaborate with our on-site plastic surgeons to provide the immediate autologous reconstructive service. For the senior fellow, this will include performing skin sparing mastectomies.
