Edinburgh, Edinburgh, United Kingdom University of Edinburgh Full time

With a community of 16,000 staff and more than 49,000 matriculated students, the University of Edinburgh has a worldwide reputation for its excellence in research and is a leader in innovation. The QS World University Rankings 2024 ranked Edinburgh 22nd in the world. The University of Edinburgh is one of the world's top research-intensive universities, ranked 4th in the UK for research power (Times Higher Education's REF power ratings), with 90% of our research activity classified as world-leading or internationally excellent in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.

As a world-leading research-intensive University, we are here to address tomorrow's greatest challenges. Between now and 2030 we will do that with a values-led approach to teaching, research, and innovation, and through the strength of our relationships, both locally and globally. Edinburgh is a truly global university and we have always had a commitment to equity of opportunity for all our staff and students, in the context of building a positive culture of inclusivity.

We are proud to hold an AdvanceHE Athena SWAN Institutional Silver award, the first University in Scotland to hold this level of award, which recognises our work to address gender equality in higher education and we have the ambition to achieve Gold. We also recognise the importance of clear impact beyond gender and have a Race Equality and Anti-Racist Action Plan, which will be further informed by the outcomes of our ongoing Review of Race and History.

Building on our progress to date, we are now looking for a new University Lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. An outstanding leader in equality, diversity and inclusion, the University Lead will have the creativity and appetite to accelerate, design and drive forward initiatives ensuring we remain sector-leading in the support we provide for our staff and students. Our University Lead will also have the personal warmth and emotional intelligence to become a trusted partner to diverse groups, networks and communities across the University, ensuring their voice, concerns and needs are heard and acted on.

As a member of our University Executive, you will be able to ensure that all our strategic plans, projects and policies have equality, diversity and inclusion embedded in them, facilitating an evidence-led, holistic and impactful approach to this agenda. Chairing the University Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, you will further support and advise on the development of structures to embed long-lasting positive change in relation to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion targets, actions and initiatives.

A transformational, collaborative and strategic leader, you will have a broad outlook on, and be able to speak credibly to, a range of EDI issues, having an excellent understanding of contemporary EDI challenges and policy at a national (and international) level, particularly in the context of higher education.

We welcome and encourage applications from candidates from all backgrounds with the qualifications, experience and potential to lead the University and its community of staff and students. Applications from candidates from under-represented groups are welcome.

Application is by submission of a full curriculum vitae and a covering letter of application, addressing the job description and person specification and including suitable daytime and evening telephone contact details and an email address. Within the covering letter, candidates are also asked to outline how they have previously advanced equality, diversity and inclusion and how they will contribute to making the University of Edinburgh more inclusive.

Completed applications should be uploaded at quoting reference 7327.

The closing date for applications is Monday 17th June 2024 at 9am.

Perrett Laver will conduct preliminary interviews with long-listed candidates in early July, and the Appointment Committee will meet in late July 2024 to decide upon a shortlist of candidates.

These individuals will subsequently be invited for interview in early August 2024.

Salary: Competitive for the role.
