Theatre Royal Plymouth is a registered charity, inspiring a lifetime of creativity for audiences, artists and participants throughout Plymouth and the wider region.

TRP do this by creating and presenting a breadth of shows on a range of scales, with their extensive creative engagement programmes, by embracing the vitality of new talent and supporting emerging and established artists, and by collaborating with a range of partners to provide dynamic cultural leadership for the city of Plymouth.

We're looking for an enthusiastic, organised and customer-minded person to join our Development team as our Membership Officer.


Our Membership Officer plays a significant role in the Development Department, helping us to reach our income target by developing and creating relationships with individual Members, with local businesses supporting us as Corporate Members and with our donors.


Working closely with the Development Manager and the Membership Support Officer, you will plan and deliver the stewardship of our Corporate and individual Members, ensuring that we provide the best customer experience and that we deliver the benefits of their Membership.

You will look for opportunities to develop patron loyalty with teams across Theatre Royal Plymouth (TRP) to increase Membership numbers and to increase renewal rates.


You will also support and deliver exciting fundraising campaigns, including our annual Festive Appeal, to generate donations and increase awareness of TRP as a charity.


It is crucial that you have extremely high attention to detail, very good organisational and customer service skills, an understanding of data inputting and the ability to question data.

The Role

Principal responsibilities

  • Provide our individual Members and Corporate Members with an excellent experience that creates opportunities to engage with the theatre and our work
  • Use our customer relationship management (CRM) database strategically to interrogate our data and create a more robust communication strategy for Membership acquisition and renewal
  • Curate, organise and host a range of events for our Members to connect them to our visiting shows, our own work on stage and our work in the local community
  • Design and deliver effective Membership acquisition campaigns and an efficient renewal system which includes a robust communications plan for lapsed Members
  • Develop relationships with our Members through regular communications including phone and inperson conversations
  • Find opportunities to develop our fundraising initiatives and our Membership offering
  • When required, represent TRP at local networking events to build relationships with local businesses and increase Corporate Membership
  • Support the administration of the team, including supporting the ticket bookings for Corporate Members and highlevel individual Members and processing renewals when required
  • Work with the rest of the Development Team to support other fundraising income streams, including our annual Festive Appeal. This includes ensuring that marketing and donation/cash handling is completed in line with charity and fundraising regulations.
