Job Description:


The Technical Architect role is responsible for creating technical architecture designs for corporate and customer solutions that will be implemented either on-premises, in corporate data centres, or on public cloud platforms.


Communication and collaboration are paramount to this role, the Technical Architect will be working closely with internal stakeholders on a continuous basis, understanding their needs, and designing solutions to complex problems, either as new opportunitiesor ongoing technical refresh of existing solutions.

The role is a combination of technical design and guidance with hands-on implementation.

As NEC business units transition to agile and DevOps based software development and delivery models the technical architect role is increasingly required to embed withinmultidisciplinary teams to deliver effective outcomes.


Responsibilities will include:

  • Produce technical architecture designs meeting business requirements within the overarching architecture framework.
  • Participate in the technical architecture design peer review process to ensure the high quality of all designs produced by the wider central architecture team.
  • Present technical architecture designs to the technical assurance board and support the technical assurance process based on specialist knowledge and experience.
  • Support the implementation of technical architecture designs, provide knowledge transfer to support teams and handson support where necessary.
  • Undertake evaluation of architecture and design options making recommendations to stakeholders that ensure functional and nonfunctional requirements are met.
  • Support the technology roadmap process undertaking and presenting investigations related to new and existing technologies enabling controlled introduction of technology adoption.
  • Undertake continuous learning to maintain knowledge of the key technologies in use by NEC, emerging technology trends, and industry standards to support business innovation through intelligent use of IT.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Proven experience producing technical architecture designs within a small to medium enterprise environment.
  • Proven understanding of nonfunctional requirements and their impact on technical architecture design.
  • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of end user, compute, networking, storage technologies, including desktop and server virtualisation technologies, network switches and firewalls, perimeter boundary protection, and SANs.
  • Demonstrates strong awareness of security ensuring that technical designs provide sufficient protection for workloads.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating a variety of influencing styles to enable effective completion of tasks both individually and within groups.
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects employing effective time management skills.
  • Desire to undertake selflearning to ensure awareness of emerging technologies and potential security threats.

Desirable

  • Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to a multitenanted community cloud platform.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to public cloud platforms.
  • Experience designing and delivering solutions within the UK Government domain.
  • Familiarity with compliance & security standards across the enterprise IT landscape such as ISO 27001 and NCSC Cyber Essentials.
  • Familiarity with ITIL service management principles & tools, and their use in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience of a subset of the core NEC technologies:
  • Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows, Oracle Solaris, Linux.
  • Server Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, Oracle OVM for x86 or Oracle OVM for Sparc.
  • Networking: Cisco Switches, Cisco Firewalls, Palo Alto Firewalls.
  • Storage: NetApp SANs.
  • Backup: Dell IDPA, HP Data Protector.
  • Public Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Oracle OCI.
