We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Controls Lead working in the Submersible Ship Nuclear Replacement (SSNR) programme, directly enabling delivery of the UK's next generation of nuclear-powered submarines set to join and then replace the Astute class in the late 2030s.

Working within the SSNR Programme Team, this is a unique opportunity for an innovative, flexible, self-motivated project professional to work on the SSNR programme.

What you will be doing:


You will be responsible to ensure that the SSNR Programme Team, and teams they interface with, work in accordance to company processes relating to Project Management.


  • Provide expert guidance to teams and able to coach and develop others in Project Controls.
  • Support the SSNR Project delivery teams by assisting them in completing project control activities, as required.
  • Support reporting by providing expert analysis of Project Controls Data.
  • Key contributor to the various performance reviews with an understanding of key performance metrics and a proactive approach to recovery planning
  • Identify and solve problems for Project and Operational Teams relating to Programme Management and Project Controls.
  • Being a local authority in relation to Project Controls and maintaining that status by continuing professional development.
  • Support of project management governance and assurance activities.
  • Promotion of the general culture and professionalism of project management in the Business.
  • Support Bids & Campaigns, offering guidance and support to teams as they work through the Estimating process.
  • Support validation & verification activities, analysing estimates and providing guidance on improving the integrity and robustness to support decision making
  • Supporting the Product/Programme Change Board and Emergent Work Process for the SSNR Programme, providing support to all stakeholders by prereviewing and offering guidance on all changes prior to submission.
  • Manage and maintain communication and interface with key stakeholders, such as MoD and the SSNR Joint PMT (Programme Management Team), Control Account Teams, Commercial and Finance.

  • Degree or equivalent Continuous Professional Development or appropriate on the job experience.
  • Good knowledge and experience of Project Management and project controls, including planning (ideally within Primavera P6), earned value, resource loading, and change control.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within a project delivery organisation.
  • Good analytical skills ability to analyse and interpret information.
  • Solid problemsolving skills ability to develop solutions to problems with multiple variables.
  • Ability to build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
