Summary of Role

You will have previous experience in marketing and communications - whether in paid work, as a volunteer, or as an intern.

Through the strategic use of social media and SEO, you will help to grow our online presence.


Providing comprehensive communications and copywriting support across the organisation, you will have excellent oral and written communication skills and also support the team in creating engaging visual assets through photography, videography, and digital work.

Attention to detail and being highly organised with a passion for marketing and communications are essential. Enthusiasm, initiative, and energy are the key attributes of all team members.


The Grand Appeal works in partnership with Aardman Animations to support Bristol Children's Hospital and the region's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

With a multi-million-pound programme of investment in the hospital, from research to family accommodation to patient, family and staff wellbeing, and a growing supporter base, The Grand Appeal is expanding fast.


We are the charity behind the internationally successful and multi award-winning Gromit Unleashed and Shaun in the City art trails, which are now part of the fabric of the city and have brought millions of visitors to Bristol from all over the world.

We are now planning for a new trail in summer 2025.

Based across five sites in Bristol, The Grand Appeal offers a dynamic, supportive and rewarding workplace for its approx. 40 staff. The role will be based at Grand Appeal HQ opposite the Bristol Children's Hospital, close to the beautiful Bristol Harbourside and the range of shops in Cabot Circus.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Marketing & Communications Support
Provide marketing and communications support across the charity by crafting compelling content for a variety of platforms and audiences, including but not limited to:

  • Writing engaging content for our multiple social media channels (paid and/or organic content).
  • Creating content for our website using WordPress while optimising copy and landing pages for search engine optimisation (SEO), with the support of our Digital Marketing Executive.
  • Schedule compelling content across various channels informed by a monthly content plan.
  • Create engaging visual content, including photography, film, banners, infographics, and other digital assets.
  • Complete a variety of administration tasks to support the Marketing and Communications Team.

Social Media

  • Assist in the daytoday management of our social media channels providing regular support and interactions on behalf of the organisation.
  • Increase reach and engagement with our social media output.
With guidance from the Senior Digital Marketing Executive, work to improve our digital standing through:
Performing ongoing keyword research, including discovery and expansion of keyword opportunities.

  • Utilise the use of Google Ads and paid social media advertising to deliver strong and measurable growth through copywriting and admin support.
  • Research and implementation of content recommendations for SEO success.
  • Monitor competitor activity and report back any events or trends.
