As a **Principal Systems Engineer**, you will oversee the technical aspects of complete satellite missions. Throughout the mission planning phase, you will collaborate with the commercial and program teams to verify mission requirements and define the scope accurately. In the various stages of mission execution, your role will involve translating customer objectives into detailed requirements for the engineering teams. You will serve as the primary technical contact for any issues and collaborate with the Program Manager to manage timelines and finances efficiently.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for scoping high-profile, multi-phase missions from inception to delivery
  • Provide detailed insights to support infrastructure projects, looking beyond the existing setup
  • Serve as the main external point of contact
  • Lead diverse engineering teams to deliver solutions that align with budget and schedule demands
  • Develop comprehensive mission requirements and oversee the systems engineering team
  • Ensure seamless requirement traceability across different disciplines and mission phases
  • Manage technical risk with the PM to consistently minimize potential risks
  • Assume the role of Responsible Engineer for the entire solution - Platform, Bus, Mission, Manufacturing, Test, Operations, GSE & Customer ICD

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a STEM-related field, or equivalent practical background
  • Minimum of 5 years in a technical engineering role or as a systems engineer for integrated systems
  • Thorough understanding of space systems, operational concepts, and remote systems management

Desired Skills:

  • Over 7 years of experience as a space systems engineer in various engineering domains
  • Proficiency in leading technical teams across different disciplines and time zones
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for client relationship-building and effective cross-functional communication
  • Strong analytical abilities to grasp complex client needs and devise unique solutions
  • Knowledge of ADS-B / Mode S transponders
  • Solid grasp of orbital dynamics
  • Proficiency in programming, with a preference for Python

Spire offers a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three office days per week for this role.
