Youth work enables young people to develop their voice, influence, and place within society.

As the national body for youth work, NYA has a dual function.

We are the professional, statutory, and regulatory body (PSRB) responsible for qualifications, quality standards and safeguarding for youth work and services in England.

In line with our charitymission and aims, we also champion youth work through research, advocacy, campaigns, and programmes.

About the Role


The Policy and Public Affairs Manager will work closely with our Head of Policy and Partnerships, the Local Policy and Partnerships Manager, wider colleagues and partners to influence national policy and ensure that the voice of the NYA and the youth sectoris driving policy and funding decisions.

They will work with internal and external stakeholders to design and deliver a comprehensive policy agenda and outreach programme.

The role will involve building positive relationships with political and policy stakeholders, managing policy projects andorganising events, monitoring the national policy and political landscape, creating written outputs, and representing the NYA at external meetings and events.


It is an exciting time to be joining NYA as we grow the communications team as part of the newly formed Policy and Communications Directorate.

Your role will be vital in helping to champion great youth work and its value and importance for young people acrossEngland.


You will:

  • Work with the Head of Policy and Partnerships, Local Policy and Partnerships Manager, and key internal and external stakeholders to help design, manage and deliver a cuttingedge policy agenda and stakeholder outreach programme
  • Identify and build positive relationships with key political and policy stakeholders who we need to work with or influence to achieve our mission and to amplify the voice of sector
  • Manage policy projects, including drafting project plans, timelines and budgets, in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Monitor the shifting national policy and political landscape, including parliamentary inquiries, consultations, political briefings and government announcements, and advise internal and external stakeholders on opportunities and risks
  • Build good relationships with peer organisations and stakeholders and identify opportunities for collaborative working to further NYA's mission
  • Build relationships with key policy stakeholders to strengthen NYA's reputation and further mission
  • Organise highquality events and policy seminars to raise the profile of the organisation
  • Manage the creation of a range of highquality written outputs for various audiences, including policy briefings, blogs and consultation responses
  • Work closely with the Head of Policy and Partnerships and Local Policy and Partnerships Manager to connect and align our national and local policy influencing and work
  • Represent the NYA at external meetings and events
