The Role


We are seeking a Band 7 Radiotherapist to join our team to provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy planning and treatment to patients, including children, with a diagnosis of cancer to a broad range of tumour sites.


The Trust/Ward/Department

The Churchill Radiology Department is within the Cancer and Haematology Centre, opened in 2009.

Primarily, we provide imaging services across the specialities found on site:

Oncology, Radiotherapy, Breast, Renal, Urology, Transplantation, Chest Medicine, upper and lower GI, Head and Neck, Haematology and Infectious Diseases.


The Responsibilities

  • To provide safe and accurate highly specialised radiotherapy planning and treatment to patients, including children, with a diagnosis of cancer to a broad range of tumour sites.
  • Be clinically competent to safely and efficiently manipulate all complex, specialised equipment associated with the planning and treatment of patients undergoing treatment with ionising radiation.
  • Accurately interpret complex treatment plans and prescriptions.
  • To evaluate verification images and understand the possible recommended action.
  • Take individual professional responsibility for the accurate, highly complex, planning of radiation treatments to radiotherapy patients ensuring that the requirements of IR(ME)R 2017 and Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 are met.
  • To be responsible and accountable for own actions in their assigned area in accordance with the Radiographers Professional Code of Conduct. To have knowledge and adherence to Health & Safety Regulations. Use professional knowledge and experience to support the safe and efficient operation of the working area.
  • Develop and maintain multidisciplinary relationships, including clinical oncologists, medical physics and nursing staff amongst others, to provide optimal service quality.
  • Communicate to patients potentially distressing and delicate information in a sensitive and caring way. Ensure patients are given all written and verbal information and support required by them while always ensuring confidentiality.
  • Take an active role in ensuring the ISO accredited Quality Management System practices and procedures are kept up to date and adhered to.
  • BSc(Hons) therapeutic Radiography or equivalent
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • NHS experience
