London, Greater London, United Kingdom St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The post represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic modern urologyteam. This is a fixed term locum consultant post to cover maternity leave until end of March 2025, with specific emphasis on providing a service focused on Andrology and Penile Cancer.

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the post of locum consultant urological surgeon with an interest in andrology. The position attracts a total of 10 PAs and includes on call and clinical commitments at the St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust sites.

St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust is a Supranetwork Penile Cancer centre and a tertiary referral centre for complex andrology and reconstructive urethral surgery. This post is to help support the current multidisciplinary team delivering this growing service and to continue to deliver excellent care to our patients over a large geographical area.

The department of Urology has 18 Consultant Urological Surgeons (5 joint appointments with local trusts), supported by a dedicated team of Clinical Nurse Specialists. St George's Hospital is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK, closely integrated to St George's Medical School, part of the University of London. The post will be a 12 month fixed term contract and the successful candidate will start in May/June 2024.

About us

The Department of Urology employs 19 Consultant Urological Surgeons (14 based at St George's), with other colleagues holding joint appointments with neighbouring hospitals including Kingston and Epsom, St Helier and Croydon University Hospital.

St George's Hospital is a major trauma centre. The team plays a prominent part in this role in providing emergency, reconstructive and long-term urological care in these patients. In particular, the team manage the urological injuries arising from renal trauma, pelvic fracture, priapism and penile fracture.

We run a consultant of the week on-call model with separate consultant cover week nights. During this time elective activities are cancelled to allow full focus on emergency work.

St George's is part of RM Partners with the Royal Marsden Hospitals providing cancer treatment to a large volume of patients in South West London and in the wider regional network. St. George's is the primary provider for complex cancer surgery. There is the requirement to work in multidisciplinary teams.

The penile cancer team has a defined catchment of 11 million and delivers the care for 36 hospital trusts across the South of England.
