Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People has a unique mandate of having responsibility to steward change across Government, while commissioning disability support services, as well as transforming how these services are delivered.

Disabled people expected to have greater choice and control over the supports and services they receive to lead their best life. We are committed to this by strengthening relationships and working in partnership with disabled people, tāngata whaikaha Māori, Pacific disabled people and their whānau.

Whaikaha presents an exciting opportunity to make a real difference. The call for "Nothing about us, without us" is an integral part of our operation.

As a Portfolio Manager you will be responsible for negotiating and managing contracts and services held by Whaikaha, through the promotion of quality, people-centred services.

You will manage a portfolio of contracts, focused on the Intellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation services. This includes monitoring and supporting development toward person directed services and the Enabling Good Lives Principles.

You will develop and maintain highly effective, high quality constructive working relationships with a wide range of key stakeholders, lead the planning and development of disability services and contribute to policies and strategies.

Your project management experience will see you supporting the management of projects, development work and service improvements within the portfolio.

You will monitor and support the quality and effectiveness of services including responding to critical incidents, complaints, and queries as they arise.

You will also be responsible for responding to Ministerial requests, OIAs, and provision of information in a timely and effective way.

Ko wai koe | About You:

The key to success in these roles will be your demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including disabled people and their whānau, the disability sector, providers of disability services and other key disability sector agencies and organisations.

You will have a significant understanding of contract management within the public sector and experience negotiating and managing complex agreements and discussions.

You will have a thorough understanding the disability sector. We are particularly interested in speaking to people who have a background in the legal or justice system who may be able to manage contracts supporting people receiving forensic disability services.

You will enjoy taking on a challenge, be effective at creating positive relationships and communicating effectively.

We are looking for enthusiastic people with a positive attitude who can respond rapidly to problem solving within a complex and dynamic environment.

This role may be carried out from any of the Whaikaha offices in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, or Dunedin.

To undertake this role successfully, you will be a disabled person or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community, as well as having empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.

Joining Whaikaha means being part of a whānau that celebrates the diversity that each individual brings. Currently, just over 40% of our people identify as disabled people and we want this number to grow. We care about the wellbeing and success of our people and provide a supportive and inclusive working environment where people can thrive and be who they really are. We are committed to the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all levels of our work.

We encourage you to talk to us about any support you need. We want you to present this information in a way that plays to your strengths.
