As the Lead Pharmacist / Responsible Person in Urgent Care and Primary Care teams you will lead on all medicine's safety, optimisation and handling processes and be the license holder for controlled drugs and Wholesale Dealers Agreement within the organisation.
You will carry out the duties of a Responsible Person including (but not limited to):
· Ensuring the Quality Management system is implemented, maintained and subject to continuous
improvement.
· Hosting and responding to regulatory and stakeholder audits.
· Ensuring all activities are compliant with regulatory requirements and terms of the licence.
· Assessing the impact of any deviations on product stored
· Ensuring self-inspections are performed and that any subcontracted activities are suitably assessed.
· Provide support and input to the wider governance team when required.
The wider role of Lead Pharmacist would cover:
· Providing support to the Head of Urgent Care to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
· To ensure the timely and accurate collection and recording of information within the QMS to allow Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to be monitored.
· To provide technical and quality system support to the wider business
· To provide line management for the Pharmacy Team
You will work alongside the internal Quality team and our Stakeholders to continually improve systems and maintain ongoing compliance ensuring that all products are manufactured and distributed in accordance with GMP/GDP and regulatory requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will lead on all medicines safety, optimisation and handling processes and be the license holder for controlled drugs and Wholesale Dealers Agreement within the organisation as detailed below.
Medicines leadership
· Develop and implement an effective QMS and ongoing compliance
· Hold responsibility for the management of the pharmacy team.
Medicines optimisation work planning
· To lead on the development of the Medicines Optimisation agenda within the organisation, and to manage
the overall medicines workstreams for the organisation.
· To provide strong leadership on medicines to all elements of the organisation.
· To take the lead on medicines safety initiatives and planning.
· Represent Malling Health at local, regional or national medicines meetings (or nominate a suitable individual).
· To represent Malling Health at various local, regional and national medicines meetings as required, such as
the regional MSO meetings, CD LIN, Area Prescribing committee.
Governance Medicines safety officer
· To undertake the responsibilities and duties of the Medicines Safety Officer as stipulated in current guidance.
· To liaise and network with other MSOs in similar organisations.
· Facilitate the implementation of recommendations in national guidance e.g.: NICE guidance, NPSA alerts and local clinical guidelines relating to medicines management and co-ordinate this activity across the locality. Advise and monitor adherence to these guidelines.
Incidents/Risks
· To support teams when medicines incidents occur, with advice and guidance.
· To collate and categorise all medicines incidents and produce reports summarising themes and actions required for various stakeholders.
· To liaise with Quality and safety colleagues and clinical teams to support changes to clinical practice and policies/procedures following on from incidents, including the dissemination of learning.
· To collaborate with the Malling Health Clinical Governance leads and structure to ensure rational prescribing and best practice re protocols and guidelines relating to medicines in the local health community.
Audits
· To manage a programme of medicines audits across the organisation, including writing audit plans and reports and supporting action plans.
· Develop, undertake and supervise medicines management audits within services and within specified locations to encourage them to critically appraise their current practice and adopt best practice standards
· To manage medicines handling audits within services.
Policies / SOPs
· To facilitate the development of consistent standards of practice and polices in line with legislation, best
practice, local and national guidelines.
· To participate in multidisciplinary groups producing written guidance
· To liaise with secondary care to promote and ensure seamless care of patients across the interface.
· To support the business and clinical teams to develop suitable clinical processes, care plans and templates
within Adastra or associated clinical systems
Advice
· To respond to queries and incidents related to medicines, and offer suitable advice and support
· To advise on the safe handling of medicines in a variety of clinical services
· To advise on the legal and professional handling of medicines in a variety of services, and during periods of
service development and change
· Medicines team workload management
· To manage and support the Pharmacy in their work on a regular basis. This will include work prioritisation,
ongoing support, supervision, and monitoring of the assistants work.
· Lead on the development of new medicines related services, including development of related guidance and
protocols.
· Medicines projects within other clinical services, and service development
Training
· Lead on the development and provision of evidence-based medicines training for health and social care staff
within the organisation, via face to face, written or online means.
· Lead on the development of suitable competency assessments for health and social care staff within the
organisation
PGDs Development group pharmacist
· To act as the development pharmacist in collaboration with nursing and medical colleagues in the
development of PGDs for use within the organisation. This will include clinically reviewing existing PGDs,
assessing the need for new PGDs, and writing new PGDs as required.
· Active member of regional PGD group
· To act as the pharmacist representative for the organisation at the PGD assurance and authorisation group.
This will include presenting PGDs developed by Malling Health and reviewing and providing feedback on
PGDs developed by other organisations.
· The post holder will also participate in the governance activities of this group, contribute to the development
of templates, policies and processes, and in the work planning and prioritisation.
Non-Medical Prescribers (NMP)
· NMP support role
· To contribute to the development of prescribing policy and attend/organise meetings relevant to role.
· To provide advice to NMPs on specific prescribing and clinical issues
· To support the development of robust tools to record and monitor prescribing in Adastra
· NMP education forums
· Post holder will be a key member of the NMP working group to develop a suitable NMP training programme.
· Post holder will deliver training relevant to NMPs at this regular NMP education session.
Prescribing analysis
· Post holder will support the clinical analysis of Malling Health's prescribing data at an individual, team and
organisational level.
· Post holder will support managers to interpret the clinical prescribing data for their team.
· Post holder will review the prescribing data in relation to local formulary compliance and in terms of
medicines safety metrics.
Budgetary considerations
· Post holder will monitor the prescribing costs generated on an organisational and service level, suggest
medicines changes which would reduce prescribing spend.
· The post holder will assist the Service Managers to manage the costs associated with medicines stocks held
across the clinical services, including PGD medicines.
Qualifications
Essential
- Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Hold a postgraduate or management qualification, or equivalent experience or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
- Minimum of 2 yrs. post qualification experience
- Experience of developing a Quality Management System
