For this post and you will be required to work collaboratively and independently within our service.

Developing and improving clinical care form the key elements of this post and you will be required to give expert nursing advice and support to patients, their families/carers, the multidisciplinary team, and other healthcare professionals. In return for your commitment and enthusiasm, working within the unique Adult Eating Disorders Team will give you the opportunity to practice a full range of core mental health nursing skills within the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) ensures that the highest standards of evidenced based nursing care are provided. The post holder will provide specialist nursing within the team, including assessments, psychological therapies and nursing interventions to service users, families and carers

This post is central to the delivery of clinically based therapy, support, education, and training working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will develop and embed evidence based clinical nursing practice within the team.

The CNS is a clinical specialist in adult mental health and is knowledgeable and skilled in working with groups and teams.   • To ensure that a psychological approach is maintained by supporting the team and the therapeutic structure including delivering a psychological treatment(s)
  • To take an active part in team reflective practice and any other reflective practices to ensure a good level of insight into therapeutic processes

  • Undertaking assessment processes
  • To take a lead role in ensuring that a high standard of multi-disciplinary care planning is in place for a caseload of patients. To ensure that all patient records are accurate and up to date
  • To participate in appropriate research and audit in the clinical field as and when necessary
  • To support the Directorate with the investigation process and learning lessons from serious incidents and complaints
  • To participate in recruitment and selection process of staff when appropriate
  • To develop and participate in the delivery of a clinical supervision structure for team members

  • Evidence of continuous professional development

  • Leadership qualification
  • Qualification in evidence based psychological therapy relevant to eating disorders
Experience Essential
  • Experience of supervising staff, clinically
  • Extensive experience of providing a range of psychological interventions to people
  • Extensive experience of multidisciplinary team working
  • Extensive experience of conducting clinical assessments including risk assessments
  • Experience of partnership working within and across various statutory and non-statutory teams and agencies
  • Extensive experience of working within the CPA process including use of the MH act.
  • Extensive understanding of clinical governance
Desirable
  • Experience of leading nursing staff or teams in practice improvement
  • Lived experience of mental health issues
  • Some experience of working with people with complex eating disorders
Knowledge and Experience Essential
  • Skills in the delivery of psychological therapies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including IT such as clinical systems and MS office.
  • Excellent ability to develop effective professional relationships with others, (individuals and groups)
  • Excellent ability to develop good therapeutic relationships, establishing and maintaining communication with individuals, families, carers and groups
  • Advanced knowledge of the Nursing process
  • Knowledge of NICE guidance and other National guidance relevant to delivery of care and safe nursing practice
  • Excellent understanding of the NMC Code and its application in practice

  • Training in delivering a psychological intervention.
