We are seeking to appoint a Committee and Member Services Team Leader to lead a small, friendly, and busy team working at the heart of the Council.

The role is based in the Democracy Team working closely with elected councillors, senior officers, and partner organisations.

The team works flexibly, with a mix of office and remote working, with formal committee meetings held in person at the Council Offices in Farnborough.


The main responsibilities of the role will be to line manage and support the team who provide professional administration to the Council, Cabinet and committees, the mayoralty, and elected members, and to ensure the effective operation of the Council's committee and decision-making processes.


Also, to provide support to the Corporate Manager - Democracy across a range of Service matters as required, including support for elections.


Day to day, the post-holder will have responsibility for managing the business of council meetings, organising civic events, and for supporting elected members.

The work will include compiling agendas and minutes of council meetings to statutory deadlines, preparing reports and briefing notes, and providing advice and guidance on the council's constitution, committee procedures and decision making.

The post-holder will lead the co-ordination of the Council's overview and scrutiny function.

There will be opportunities for varied work and to support corporate projects and service development and transformation.


You will have an interest to participate in leadership development, be able to work successfully with others, and with a high level of political awareness.

You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, and confidence to give advice. You work well under pressure, are resilient, and can plan and organise work effectively to manage competing demands. You show attention to detail and accuracy in work and are confident in using IT.

The nature of the role means that attending evening meetings is necessary approx. 2-3 times a month. A mix of in person and virtual meetings.
