OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB:


To provide research support to the intelligence function within NWP and provide resilience in the research function across all areas of the intelligence function.

To act as a point of expertise for Intelligence research and development within the division / dept.
To communicate the findings of research to Intelligence Supervisors, Managers, Colleagues.

Responsible to the Force Intelligence Supervisor as the Intelligence Researcher you will provide resilience and expertise across all areas of the intelligence function.

You will play a vital role in delivering Intelligence research and development relating to dynamic and ongoing Investigations including; Serious Organised Crime and Major Incidents, reporting and communicating your findings to Intelligence Supervisors, Managers and colleagues.

Compiling internal reports on current active criminals and crime preparing briefings and bulletins to assist operational officers in areas that require specific action.

Using your initiative to maximise intelligence development producing accurate reports to the highest standards and delivering them to senior officers


We are looking for someone with a good eye for attention to detail, with an investigative mindset they should have a good knowledge of IT skills including NWP Intelligence systems, be proficient in the use of social media and have excellent communication skills with the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team.

What will I need to be considered for the for the Intelligence Researcher?

NVQ level III or equivalent relevant qualifications and experience.
Proven research skills preferably obtained within an intelligence environment.
Good organisational skills, together with the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
Excellent communication/ presentation skills, commensurate with grade.
Possess an awareness of Law Enforcement tactics and investigation practices.
Proven ability to work individually or as an effective member of a team.
Competent use of various Force Computerised Intelligence Systems IT systems.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Access and Windows NT.

Develop and maintain an understanding of MOPI (Management of Police Information) and understand the use of handling codes and protective marking scheme relevant for the dissemination of intelligence.

Develop and maintain an understanding of NIM (National Intelligence Model), and where the role of the researcher fits into this model.

Develop and maintain an understanding of current legislation relevant to the role of the researcher, for example RIPA (Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000) in relation to the acquisition of telecoms data
Investigative nature, attention to detail and knowledge of PNC, PND and RMS would be highly desirable.
