Location:
Home-Start East Antrim main office in Carrickfergus.

The post holder will be supporting families in community settings across Carrickfergus, Newtownabbey and Larne and therefore will need their own transport (mileage covered).

Hours of work: 16 hours per week over 3 days (Mon, Wed, Thur) flexibility required for _occasional_ out-of-hours work if required. This is a fixed-term

Salary:
£12.21 PH, NJC Scale 3, point 5

Purposes of the job:


Working directly with parents and their pre-school children, in their homes and community-based group settings, delivering a range of family support interventions to strengthen their ability to overcome challenges in family life.


Main Responsibilities

Supporting families

  • To responsively provide a range of quality practical and emotional support as appropriate to the needs of each identified family e.g. homevisiting, group work, phone support or supported signposting
  • Deliver weekly family group sessions, creating a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment for Home-Start families
  • Conduct support reviews with Home-Start group families at regular intervals in line with Home-Start guidance
  • Ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of work
  • Respond sensitively and appropriately to safeguarding issues, ensuring compliance with Home-Start safeguarding policies and procedures
  • Encourage and assist the active participation of parents/carers in activities as appropriate

Volunteers

  • Build and maintain good working relationships with Home-Start volunteers and ensure volunteers feel valued and engaged
  • Provide regular encouragement, direction and support to volunteers supporting group sessions

Supporting the work of the scheme

  • Work collaboratively and flexibly within our team, including assisting the Family Support Coordinator and Family Group Leader, to deliver a package of support services to families
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, keeping other members of staff informed and aware of issues affecting the scheme and its support to families
  • Promote the work of the scheme as required, including volunteer recruitment activities
  • Provide support with organising scheme activities and events

Administration

  • Communicate appropriately and effectively with staff and volunteers
  • Maintain appropriate family support records to the required standards

Health and Safety

  • Implement, review and update risk assessments
  • Ensure adherence to the Home-Start East Antrim Health and Safety Policy
  • Record and report all accidents or incidents
  • Ensure venues are left clean and tidy with equipment cleaned, checked and stored away safely


The post holder may be required to undertake any other duties that fall within the nature of the role and responsibilities as detailed above.
