We have a new vacancy for a Track Maintenance Operative to join our team at Mendip Rail, Merehead, Shepton Mallet


As an Track Maintenance Operative you will inspect, maintain and repair Mendip Rail managed infrastructure in order that routine operation of running lines is made available for planned train services to meet the company's business commitments.

Ensure upkeep of the track work, storage areas and work equipment at Whatley and Merehead.

You will liaise with the Track Maintenance Foreman to ensure competency and training is up to date and will be responsible for repairs and materials consumables and stock items; you will also be responsible for the implementation and upkeep of 5S, including best practice techniques

What will you bring?

  • Maintain company's managed infrastructure to company standards; (Inspections repairs and renewals.
  • Support and deputies for the Track Maintenance Foreman; When they are on leave. Liaise with the Track Maintenance Foreman to ensure competency and training is up to date.
  • Responsibility for Repairs and Materials consumables and stock items.
  • Responsibility for the implementation and upkeep of 5S, including Best Practice techniques.
  • Working without direct supervision.
  • Hold plain line S&C inspection and maintenance competence.
  • Forklift competence, 360 competence, track maintenance vehicles.
  • On Call for track defects and derailments.
