Job description

Nottinghamshire Police are looking for investigators of the future. Have you got what it takes?


This is an exciting and brand new entry programme which sees you join Nottinghamshire Police as a Police Officer and start a fast track journey in becoming a Detective Constable.

This will be completed through 23 weeks initial training, you are then placed throughout the Force to be tutored and experience being a uniformed frontline officer.

After 12 months and completion of your Police Constable portfolio, you will then move into a Detective Constable role and complete your Detective portfolio.

This is the first time Nottinghamshire Police have provided this fast track programme and if you want to be a future Detective, this is the job for you

But have you got what it takes to be a Detective? You will:

  • investigate the most serious and complex of crimes
- support victims with compassion and manage any risk
- gather evidence, interview suspects and conduct victim and witness statements
- utilise the latest technologies as well as traditional policing methods
- prepare case files and attend court to present evidence
- engage with a wide variety of people
- communicate professionally with care and empathy
- demonstrate resilience and tenacity, whilst retaining a focus on delivering a positive result and adapting to new developments
- be fully supported through complete Police Officer and Detective training, tutorship, a dedicated Professional Development Officer to help you complete your PIP1 and PIP2 portfolios
- pass the National Investigator Exam with a full learning resources package.

Detectives manage our complex and serious investigations and work as investigative experts in a number of different investigation types including serious assault, firearms, drugs, fraud, cybercrime, domestic abuse and sexual assault.


This role will challenge yourself and ultimately be rewarded, knowing that you have made a difference to the lives of those that you have supported.

We want passionate and creative people who will be relentless in solving crimes, with good communications skills, problem solving ability and enjoys working as part of a team.
