Part-time Bar Steward

PoultonleFylde, Lancashire, United Kingdom Poulton-le-Fylde Community Hall Full time

Part-time Bar Steward

Background to the job

Poulton-Le-Fylde Community Hall is a charity run community hub offering all kinds of activities like wellbeing, sporting and exercise classes, entertainment, children's playgroups etc.

We pride ourselves on being the focus of community life and host many evening and weekend social events like wedding receptions, birthday and anniversary celebrations etc.

_For more information and background to the Chartity and Hall see our website (plf-) and facebook page )._

We have a small but very busy bar manned by a team of paid volunteer bar staff but it is often difficult to cover all weekend shifts during busy times.

It was therefore decided that we need someone to
cover most of the weekend slots and co-ordinate the volunteer staff rota. The job would also include activities such as bar restocking, line cleaning, recycling and clearing away for the next-day hirer.

For evening party hire the bar is generally open until 11pm or sometimes midnight (these are family parties in the main).

Shows, concerts, fundraising events, presentations etc tend to end around 10pm. The bar operates a 'card-only' policy.

Hours worked can be coordinated with, covered and supported by the rest of the bar team but
over all responsibility for cover will rest with the jobholder.

This is a lovely opportunity to join a friendly team and work alongside the Hall Manager in a highly rewarding environment.

The events the bar covers will be
very varied and interesting but the hours need to be flexible and will be irregular eg some weekends may need both Friday and Saturday night cover but other weekends will need none.

The initial contract is for six months to establish suitability, with an option to renew and reassess the role at the end of this period.

This is a
zero hour contract but our previous and future bookings indicate an average of 30-40 hours a month with more available during busy periods.

Please note that these hours will be irregular and always include weekend evenings, so flexibility is needed. The hours worked will also need to be compatible with any other permanent employment.

High-Level Job Description

Assist the Poulton Community Hall Team in managing the busy bar of our beautifully restored hall, providing a multi-purpose space for the Poulton community.

Responsibilities:

Work varied shift patterns, mainly at weekends (Friday nights, Saturday and Sunday afternoons), for events such as parties, weddings, christenings, concerts and comedy nights for up to 200 guests.

  • Assisting the Hall Manager in the smooth running of the licensed bar
  • Assist the Hall Manager in preparing monthly staff rota
  • Liaising with suppliers for restocking the bar in order to maintain adequate stock for each event
  • Manage deliveries and ensure efficient stock rotation.
  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness (including carrying out line cleans) and managing the correct recycling of waste for collection.
  • Meet with hirers to advise on the Hall setting up and clearing away procedure prior to opening the bar
  • Be a key holder for Hall opening and locking up as required.
  • Willing to take a personal licence for awareness of licensing regulations and responsibilities.

Requirements for the Bar Steward Role

ESSENTIAL

  • Customer facing skills
  • Selfmotivated with an agile and flexible approach to work
  • Available for weekend and evening work.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Physically active and fit enough to work some 6+ hour shifts, lift and change beer pods, move tables, chairs, equipment, etc.

DESIRABLE

  • Live locally to the Hall (or have suitable transport).

Process for applying

Please include a covering letter explaining why you believe you would be suitable for the role and how you meet the essential criteria.

We also require two personal character references with their contact details to enable us to contact them.
