One of seven business units within the Almac Group of companies and is located on the Queen's University Belfast life sciences campus, close to two major hospitals and the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre.

We have additional laboratories in Edinburgh (Protein Therapeutics) and offices in Manchester (Bioinformatics).

The Role
Almac Discovery are currently recruiting for an associate Scientist (Biology) to join their team in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

The postholder will work as part of a team of biologists within Almac Discovery R&D department to support Drug Discovery programs.


The associate scientist will assume responsibility and be accountable for the efficient and timely delivery of assay-based results including biochemical assay and cellular assays to look at small molecular or biologic mechanism of action.

Essential

  • Degree level qualification in Cell/ Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline
    Or _previous industrial/ relevant biological lab experience may be considered in lieu of academic qualification._
  • Strong background in molecular and cell biology and/or cancer biology.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cell biology and other basic molecular techniques e.g. DNA/RNA/ protein from cells and/or tissues. PCR, western blotting, cloning or ELISA

Desirable

  • BSc (Hons) in Cell/ Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline.
  • Practical experience in mammalian cell culture
  • Experience in cell based models of disease and ability to characterise complex cellular phenotypes
  • Previous experience in pharmaceutical R&D or related research environment considered advantageous
  • Prior experience in complex cellular assays considered advantageous e.g. (3D, coculturing), flow cytometry, CRISPR
