This role is within the Asset Strategy and Capital Delivery Directorate and reports to the Head of Investment Programme Management (IPM). The Head of IPM is responsible for the following teams: Investment Estimating, Investment Portfolio, Investment Portfolio Risk & Planning, Programme Management Office, and closely collaborates with other Business Partner's support (e.g. finance, commercial).

The role will lead a team of Investment Programme Managers and Investment Programme Optimisation.

You will play an extensive role in overseeing the successful delivery of investment programmes of many sizes and its deliverables to time, cost and quality through strong governance and clear communication.

This role is a perfect opportunity for an Investment Portfolio Manager who is highly skilled, experienced Project Manager with a strong background in managing complex projects and is looking to take on more responsibilities and to play a crucial role in our IPM team.

Responsibilities

Whilst not an exhaustive list the principle accountabilities are:

Responsibility for implementing the fund's investment strategies and managing day to day portfolio management. Respond to Investment Programmes changes to make prioritisation decisions to ensure that portfolio's KPIs are delivered. Chair, monitor and review monthly Investment Programmes cost & value, schedule, benefits, resources, risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies (RAID) with direct reports. Liaising with internal Stakeholders. Monitor and control investment spending in-line with budgets and its distributed values across the life cycle of the projects. Ensure delivery of agreed Investment Portfolio objectives. Lead in portfolio reporting by direct reports, governance compliance, provide regular and insightful updates to the Head of Investment Programme Manager, highlighting associated delivery risks and how these are being controlled. Embedding frameworks to deliver consistent and repeatable programme and project management, including benefits and value management. Lead on gap analysis change portfolio supporting the business strategy. Lead and facilitate the project lifecycle process to assess and make decisions on new change proposals through the governance framework. Lead of both direct and indirect reports and adapt at enabling them to be the best they can be, in support of successful outcomes for the Investment Portfolio. Responsible for portfolio quality assurance. Lead and support direct reports in identifying risks and issues and implementing mitigation to manage them, and to do so collaboratively, influence, and escalate to resolution. Assessing change, ensuring the full scope and impact are fully understood and quantified to enable effective decision-making.

Requirements:

Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant subject. Ideally hold or be willing to work towards an appropriate professional body membership or equivalent. A strong level of experience of project management within utility industry.

Key skills:

Ability to originate ideas and influence investment portfolio success. Previous evidence of managing complex work activities covering engineering, technical, financial, health, safety and quality aspects. Utility industry and business knowledge with prior involvement of working in project management within a regulated environment. Experience in communicating effectively at all levels. Strong influencing skills and ability to operate successfully in a large, complex business setting, with a focus on driving operational excellence. Be of a technical-based mindset. Strong attention to details. Leadership skills.
