Alder Hey Children's Hospital cares for over 330,000 children, young people, and their families every year.

As one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions.

In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales, and the Isle of Man.

We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Alder Park Building in North Liverpool.


What you'll be responsible for:

  • Provide support to staff across the Trust who make data collection errors with the aim of ensuring errors are not continuously repeated
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Coding Department, correct erroneous admissions on PAS to ensure finished consultant episodes (FCE's) are correctly displayed, which would include adding or removing Consultant transfers, including interrupted spell patients.
  • Support the data quality agenda in providing guidance documents and deliver advice to other users where data quality is poor or users require assistance.
  • Check missing NHS numbers and update accordingly to ensure key patient identifiers are present on the Trusts PAS system
The role will involve, but not be limited to you performing the above

You'll learn the following whilst working at the trust:

  • An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
  • Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
  • A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

You'll have the following skills/experience:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills with range of all levels of staff and members of the public with varying levels of understanding.
  • Excellent written communication skills and good level of English.
  • Good working knowledge of a Trust PAS and back office functions.
  • Evidence of working with the public in a similar role, or relevant NHS Experience
  • Knowledge of NHS systems and procedures
