Job description:

Imagine getting paid to gain new skills that will serve you throughout your career. As a Associate Interaction Designer industrial placement, you will earn while you learn and make a real impact.


Joining the Government Digital and Data profession, you'll collaborate with designers, user researchers, product managers, and business analysts to shape project visions.

Working alongside developers, you'll figure out how to bring those visions to life.

This is your opportunity to influence projects that touch the lives of millions.

In this role you will:

  • Gain an understanding of designing simple and intuitive services. Understand the value of evidencebased design and that design is a process.
  • Understand the synergy between form and function.
  • You will learn to visualise, articulate and solve complex problems and concepts, and make disciplined decisions based on available information and research evidence.
  • Develop approaches to translate technical concepts into nontechnical language.
  • Understand the work of others and the importance of team dynamics, collaboration and feedback.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of design, technology and data principles engaging with current trends in design.
  • Learn more about prototyping and be able to explain why and when to use it.
  • Identify needs and engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence. You will understand and can define research that fits user needs.

Person specification:

Essential Criteria

We are looking for an industrial placement who:

  • Has a keen interest in and awareness of the significance of Interaction Design.
  • Is a strong communicator, possessing excellent writing skills.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be in the penultimate year of your degree course
  • Studying towards a degree in one of the following
    IT, Design/Web Design, Computer Science, or Businessrelated degree


If you are successful, your placement will start in early September 2024 and this will be for a minimum of 9 months.

We can not accept placements any earlier than this.
