An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work in supporting the Community Children's Occupational Therapy Service.


The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) post will predominantly be based at Sunshine House, Camberwell, however you will be expected at times to work at the Mary Sheridan Child Development Centre.


You will be working within the Occupational Therapy team, which consists of a mix of positions, including an Occupational Therapy Head of Service, Team Leader/Clinical Specialists, Band 7 and Band 6 Occupational Therapists, an OT Assistant and an experienced Office Administrator located at each site.

You will also work alongside other members of a multi-disciplinary team.


The Community Children Occupational Therapy service works with children and young people, aged 0-19 years, who have difficulties performing the everyday activities they need to do.

These children and young people may have a variety of diagnoses including multiple neurological conditions, autistic spectrum disorders and developmental coordination disorder.

The daily duties of the OTA will be to support the team with patient related tasks, including clinical administration jobs to ensure the daily running of clinics and caseload management as directed by the Occupational Therapists.

As a result of the pandemic our new normal service offer is being developed to incorporate innovative digital and virtual approaches to occupational therapy care delivery and this position will be crucial in supporting this objective.

You will be working with an established team of experienced and supportive community children's occupational therapists.

Job Summary


To deliver an effective and efficient administration and secretarial service to the Occupational Therapy Team, in line with agreed standards, and to support the Occupational Therapy Team with delivery of intervention to children and their families where appropriate.

Main Responsibilities


To assist in the delivery of all aspects of the Occupational Therapy service to children aged 0-19 years with a range of developmental difficulties and/or disabilities, many of whom have very complex special needs.


To assist the Occupational Therapy team with administrative tasks needed to co-ordinate specific areas of service delivery e.g., equipment ordering, upper limb clinic, drop-in clinic.


To assist the Occupational Therapist in joint sessions with the child to support a variety of clinical interventions such as group work, upper limb splinting and treatment sessions where two people are required to make the session effective.

To be responsible for the ordering and maintenance of special equipment as delegated by the Occupational Therapist.

This includes the ongoing management of the department's equipment database, liaising directly with reps regarding appointments or equipment needed for the child, liaising with various companies regarding any problems experienced with the equipment and liaising directly with Social Services and Education regarding ordering of specific pieces of equipment.

To attend staff meetings, quarterly business meetings and other Occupational Therapy meetings as directed. To contribute to the evaluation of service provision and business planning.


To be responsible for identifying own training and development needs in line with service needs and professional with regular guidance from Therapy staff.

Actively participate in clinical governance activities, clinical audits, quality assurance and evidence-based research where appropriate.
