School Counsellor Post - Inverness, part-time, flexible hours

Hours per week: 4 counselling appointments plus associated admin of notes, updating attendance records and communicating with office via Teams and Outlook.

Rowan was founded in Perth in 1997 to help people lead more satisfying lives.

We have a team of sessional counsellors operating across the UK. Rowan also offers coaching, supervision, workplace mediation and training.

We deliver the pupil counselling service for Millburn Academy and associated primary schools, for P6-S6. Pupils are offered 6-10 sessions, with some flexibility. We have a locally based team of counsellors in Inverness, supported by our central office in Perth.

Counsellors work in partnership with school staff to support pupil wellbeing and academic achievement.

Job purpose:
to deliver counselling to pupils supporting them to build resilience and facilitating them to achieve their learning goals.

Job description
- offer 4 counselling sessions per week, at fixed times to be agreed on appointment;
- work within Rowan's policies and procedures, accepting referrals online, taking client notes on Teams and logging attendance data weekly;
- occasional counselling and CPD during the school holidays/inservice days;
- use CORE-YP or age -appropriate assessment tool ;
- liaise with the Rowan Counselling Managers to ensure high standard of service delivery;
- maintain confidentiality and child protection appropriate to the school setting;
- undertake self-funded supervision, in accordance with the guidelines of your professional body;

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

- qualification and experience in counselling young people, aged 10 plus
- registered with BACP, COSCA or UKCP or equivalent
- ability to assess for, and work with, risk
- awareness of the dual accountability to both Rowan and to the school, as well as to the pupil
- willingness to travel to associated primary schools in Inverness
- personal indemnity insurance
- experience of online counselling and a commitment to complete adequate training in your own time if you do not already have training in remote working
- knowledge and experience of child protection issues
- be registered as a Data Controller with ICO

Advantageous:

- have training in more than one therapeutic modality
- experience of delivering time-limited counselling
- experience of working in a school counselling service
- have a PVG Enhanced Disclosure to work with children
