To work as an effective member of the team, providing care for patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse.

At all times adhere to statutory, mandatory, directorate guidance and the Trust's Health Care Assistants Code of Conduct.

To carry out routine duties as instructed by and under supervision of a qualified nurse.

To communicate appropriately any relevant information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team with supervision and report any abnormal changes in patient condition

To provide support alongside nurses in recovery.

To provide emotional support for patients and their carers.

To promote the dignity of patients.

To keep the ward environment clean and tidy

Participation in regular IPR's with a named senior endoscopy nurse.

Assist senior staff in the development and implementation of departmental policies.

Complete the Trust and local induction for HCA's.

To undertake additional duties such as:
Remove venflons after specific training and competencies.

Cleaning and preparing of the decontamination endoscopes after training and in adherence to Health & Safety Procedures.

Collect and record specimens.

To act as a circulating member of staff in the endoscopy room.

To assist with the admission of patients in the unit, including taking baseline observations, personal details.

To provide support alongside nurses in recovery.

To provide emotional support for patients and their carers.

To promote the dignity of patients.

To keep the ward environment clean and tidy

Maintenance of the endoscopy environment by the cleaning and clearing of the procedure room during and after procedures.

Maintenance of adequate supplies and assistance with the receipt and storage of goods into and out of the department.

To assist in the delivering of the Bowel Screening Programme

Professional responsibilities

Be responsible for their own development, maintaining a professional portfolio and keeping themselves updated on current nursing issues.

Be active and approachable role model.

To take responsibility and ownership of own personal development plan by attending relevant study dates and ensure mandatory training requirements are met.

The compilation and maintenance of own professional portfolio.

Participation in regular IPR's with a named senior endoscopy nurse.

Assist senior staff in the development and implementation of departmental policies.

Complete the Trust and local induction for HCA's.

Be willing to undertake further training HCA programme.

Quality assurance and Monitoring

Maintain a clean and tidy environment, including bed areas, store cupboards, sluice, treatment room and equipment used for procedures.

Undertake the cleaning of ward equipment, according to policy and procedure. Make effective use of the infection control policy.

Undertake the cleaning of bed areas, suction, oxygen, lockers and prepare for admission.

General Responsibilities

Is observed to have a smart appearance, hence adhering to the Trust's uniform policy.

Demonstrates a caring and supportive attitude towards their work colleague.

Uphold the trust vision and values.

Works in tandem with management team.
