About the Team and Role

The Senior Claims Analyst, Reinsurance (RI) is a key technical position within Inigo, responsible for handling and oversight of large RI claims and cat events. Reporting to the Head of Reinsurance claims to aspire to run a market leading technical unit within claims that is fully embedded within the product line. They will partner with underwriters to sell the claims value proposition and build confidence and trust with our Clients and Brokers. Our reinsurance business mainly focuses in the US market, but write International business including Europe, Japan, Canada, Caribbean and Australasia markets. Our reinsurance portfolio is mainly Property Cat, some Property Risk XL, Pro-rata and Retro programmes. We also write a smaller Specialty Treaty portfolio. So experience in handling US Property Catastrophe business is essential.

We are looking for someone that loves all aspects of claims. That means they are experienced and capable of handling complex claims and as we grow further, enjoy managing or developing junior members of the team. They are a self-starter, always looking for the best way to partner with Underwriters in learning from losses and building strong relationships with Brokers and Clients – preferably across the US as well as London. They know the US market-leading cedants and can easily develop those relationships alongside the underwriters. They have a keen interest in data and analytics and can use claims data to discover trends and inform all parts of the business.

The successful candidate will do this by:

  • Handling and review of large and complex technical RI claims, responsible for oversight for accurate and timely case reserves and payments. Leading with Property Catastrophe experience is key to the role
  • Managing internal claim ultimate estimates for certain large cat events, collaborating with Head of RI claims and providing recommendation to actuaries and senior management
  • Holding a high level of authority for RI claims and overseeing areas where delegation of reserving, payment and settlement authority has been given to more junior internal staff and any external claims resources for their line of business
  • Contributing and participating in internal and external meetings to share and develop claims knowledge and strategy, including deputising in the absence of the Head of RI Claims
  • Working closely with the Claims Operations team on managing forward thinking claims MI data.
  • Creating and nurturing collaborative relationships with the RI Underwriting team to ensure they are kept current and participating in decisions that are fundamental to their business
  • Holding responsibility for reporting trends in RI claims and working closely with Underwriters to learn lessons from losses and working with Actuaries for reserving decisions to encourage a culture of continuous improvement and learning
  • Achieving a reputation of claims excellence, innovation and service delivery in the Marketplace. Collaborating with Brokers and working with other reinsurers
  • Ensuring you are operating within appropriate regulatory framework boundaries; adhere to all Inigo's policies, audits, controls and risk procedures; and protecting all licences and agreements

To do this, we're going to need you to bring:

  • Extensive technical claims expertise and demonstrable working knowledge of the most significant and complex RI treaty excess of loss claims, ideally gained from working for a Lead Reinsurer
  • Strong experience of managing internal claim ultimate estimates on catastrophe events and large losses, working on this process with Underwriters and Actuaries.
  • Good experience of handling all aspects of pro-rata treaties
  • A solutions orientated mindset working with Clients and Brokers in stressful situations
  • Leadership experience, comfortable to lead from the front and lead by example with the internal claims team, in the Market and externally with Brokers and Clients
  • A solid belief in a team culture. Developing and growing others by coaching and inspiring them to grow and succeed will be critical to the future success of Inigo
  • A passion for data analytics and using trends to drive better outcomes for Inigo and Clients
