About the role

At Hargreaves Lansdown, Salesforce is at the core of our digital transformation and operational excellence. As we continue to enhance and expand our Salesforce platform, we are seeking a Principal Salesforce Developer to lead the technical design and development of our solutions. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, this role will ensure that all technical solutions align with best practices, architectural standards, and business needs.

The Principal Salesforce Developer will play a key role in shaping the future of our Salesforce platform, collaborating with Engineering Managers, Developers, and Consultants. You will guide how technical solutions are built, supporting the Senior Engineering Manager, who oversees what is built across the platform.

You'll work closely with two Engineering Managers who are responsible for 'Design & Build' and 'DevOps, QA, and Support,' as well as, for a period, Salesforce Consultants delivering larger-scale developments. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring a mix of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical authority for Salesforce development, setting standards for design, coding, and platform architecture.
  • Solution Design: Collaborate with stakeholders and Engineering Managers to design scalable, secure, and high-performance Salesforce solutions.
  • Development Oversight: Lead and review development work, ensuring adherence to best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
  • Platform Strategy: Work with the Senior Engineering Manager to define and execute the long-term technical roadmap for the Salesforce platform.
  • Mentorship: Guide and mentor developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Collaboration: Partner with teams across 'Design & Build,' 'DevOps, QA, and Support,' and consultant-led workstreams to deliver seamless solutions.
  • Innovation: Stay updated on the latest Salesforce technologies, features, and trends, bringing innovative ideas to the platform.
  • Problem-Solving: Tackle complex technical challenges, providing solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for technical designs, processes, and best practices.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive Salesforce Experience: Deep knowledge of Salesforce architecture, development tools, and best practices, with expertise in Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flows, and APIs.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven experience leading development teams or acting as a technical lead in complex Salesforce projects.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to align technical solutions with business goals and contribute to the broader platform strategy.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: A track record of solving challenging technical problems and delivering robust solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex ideas effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Certifications: Advanced Salesforce certifications (e.g., Salesforce Certified Technical Architect, Application Architect, or System Architect) are highly desirable.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to shape the technical direction of a critical business platform.
  • A collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Professional development opportunities to enhance your expertise further.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • By joining us as the Principal Salesforce Developer, you will have a pivotal role in driving the success of our Salesforce platform and ensuring it meets the evolving needs of our business.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce best practices and functionality.
  • Expertise in Apex, Lightning Components, and Salesforce development best practices.
  • Experience with Salesforce integrations and APIs.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Salesforce Lightning Experience, including Lightning components and App Builder.
  • Experience with third-party applications and integrations, such as marketing automation tools, Data Cloud, Einstein.
