As General Manager you'll be the main leadership role for Kedleston Hall.  You’ll be a cultural leader and lead Kedleston as part of the Discovery House programme.  You’ll also be the main driving force behind opening Kedleston Hall to the public.   You'll lead from the front, inspiring and motivating your team, turning strategy into reality and delivering across a broad range of operational areas as you bring nature, beauty and history to our members and visitors. You'll create an inclusive culture where everyone can feel a sense of belonging.

Kedleston is a Neo-Classis Show Palace, surrounded by 800 acres of spectacular Parkland and welcoming over 225,000 visits each year. Set just 4 miles from Derby city centre Kedleston is a green lung for local people and wildlife and is one of the National Trust’s 28 Discovery Houses, being internationally significant for its collections and architecture designed by famous architect Robert Adam. 
Our vision at Kedleston is to create wonder through celebrating art and design, from exploring the art and culture of our unique collection of objects from across the Asian continent to platforming new artists and unpacking the influence of 18th-Century design on our world today.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Operations, you’ll manage six heads of department, and work alongside with Whole Trust and Regional colleagues to deliver smooth running across all areas of the property.

What you'll be doing

You'll manage several Heads of Department, each with their own speciality – from gardens and outdoors, to facilities, visitor experience, curatorship and collections care – and will work with regional commercial and let estate teams. You'll bring your motivational style to inspire your team to succeed across all areas of the property, to create the funds to invest back into further conservation and development.
You'll focus on providing inspirational leadership for staff and volunteers; the ongoing development of a great visitor experience with customer service at its heart; You'll manage risk and compliance; champion conservation – nature, buildings and collections.

Who we're looking for

You'll be an experienced and dynamic person. You'll need to love working with people and to be good at making things happen: you'll be an 'expert generalist' across a diverse remit. We have high visitor and revenue targets, so you'll need to be experienced with finances, people and projects.
With many skills in your toolkit, you'll need to demonstrate the following experience:
•An understanding of – or interest in – the historic or natural environment, culture and heritage, and the challenges of managing visitors and conservation•A good understanding of the Discovery House programme•You'll be interested in our supporters and visitors and what matters to them•Experience leading diverse operational teams. You'll be visible to your staff and volunteers and be able to share your vision in a compelling way•You'll be committed to inclusion and diversity•You’ll be committed to Climate Action•You'll really care about our work, and you'll understand what makes a great visitor experience and make sure your high standards are evident across the property•You'll be comfortable managing operational risk, understand the underpinning need for compliance and know what it means to hold others to account•Work at some weekends and Bank Holidays as part of a Duty Management rota is required with this role
