What it's like to work here
Cragside is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the North East, welcoming around 250,000 visitors every year. Located in stunning, rural Northumberland 15 miles from the coast, and only 30 miles from the vibrant city of Newcastle, living and working at Cragside allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds.
This is a high performing property team, experienced in a broad range of disciplines. Everyone works closely together to look after Cragside for our visitors – both present and future – to enjoy. Flexibility, resourcefulness, and collaboration are the key.
The wider team includes two rangers, one other Assistant Ranger and five facilities staff. You will report to the Area Ranger.
What you'll be doing
As a Recreation Assistant Ranger, you will support the team of staff and volunteers responsible for all the practical work needed to deliver the estate maintenance plan on the estate. At Cragside, the ranger team has a greater focus on landscape presentation, opening operations and the enjoyment of visitors in the great outdoors, than on land and nature conservation.
You will play your part in the delivery of a variety of tasks from maintaining footpaths and managing grass and vegetation, to renewing timber barriers and the care of the play areas. You will also have a part to play in ensuring our visitors receive the highest standards of customer service.
Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you are:
- able to demonstrate practical experience in land, conservation and access management to level 2 or have 6 months vocational experience
- willing to work outside in all weathers and deliver tasks when the weather conditions aren’t ideal
- comfortable working in a flexible and adaptable way
- able to work alone or under direction, and as part of a team
- positive with an approachable attitude
- happy and willing to learn new things
- enjoy the work you do and happy to share this with others
