You'll be responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of a renowned group of estates and properties in Oxfordshire, including one of the National Trust’s largest lowland estates at Buscot and Coleshill. Over 500,000 visitors per annum are welcomed to the outdoor and built properties. You'll manage a Property Leadership Team across diverse departments. Leading from the front, inspiring, and motivating your team, you'll encourage innovation and turn strategy into daily operations.
What it's like to work here
Reporting to the regionally based Assistant Director of Operations, this is an interim opportunity to be the figurehead of the West Oxfordshire portfolio, holding key partner relationships on behalf of the organisation, both internally and externally. You'll lead your team operating across a complex and dynamic commercial visitor operation, with exciting plans to deliver more for nature and people.
Your base location will be the traditional Estate Office set within the 19th century Home Farm at Coleshill near Faringdon. The Estate Office is close to 400 acres of in hand parkland and there is a café and pub in the village. The office is a friendly and social place with a historic desk to inherit. What you'll be doing
Managing a team of department heads and working with a large network of national and regional specialists and external stakeholders and partners, you’ll develop new ways to engage our supporters, deliver ways of working to connecting with new audiences. On the farmed estate, you’ll aim to create new habitat to accelerate our nature ambition while working with our farming community to ensure there remains good farm businesses. At our visitor places you’ll develop further quality of visits at Chastleton, Ashdown and Skills Centre, meeting our conservation requirements.
Taking the lead on fundraising for the places under your leadership, you’ll seek commercial opportunity to diversify income. You’ll support departments to develop the right priorities, balancing access and conservation while providing the resources and inspirational leadership, ensuring their care, confidence, and capability in delivering our strategy.
Behind all this work sits a strong culture of risk management and compliance. You'll ensure that all our operations are safe and managed to the highest standards and you’ll understand, anticipate, and manage issues that could affect the Trust’s reputation, finances or assets.
