PSTT Trustee
In early 2025 we are looking to recruit a specialist trustee with knowledge and skills in fund management and investments. Whilst there will be some hand-over from the current role holder, we expect candidates to be self-starters who are excited by PSTT’s mission and who are able to contribute their time, knowledge and ideas to help us achieve our goals.
We are actively seeking volunteers from diverse backgrounds to join our board of trustees. We passionately believe that a truly inclusive and diverse board of trustees, each with their own unique life experience, viewpoint and skillset, can come together and collectively use the power of their differences to create real impact. We therefore particularly welcome applications from people of colour, people of all ages, people with disabilities, and from across the UK’s regions and nations. Whether you’re an experienced trustee or you’d like to gain board experience – and whatever your own educational background – we’d love to hear from you.
As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to contribute to PSTT’s strategy, develop knowledge and leadership skills, and expand your professional network. We will also support your training and development as a trustee, including providing a ‘buddy’ if needed, and will ensure an inclusive environment throughout your trusteeship.
The expected time commitment is four board meetings each year (with the option to join remotely) plus an annual strategy away day. There are also opportunities to join committees and working groups. Trustees are unpaid, but we will cover your expenses.
About the Primary Science Teaching Trust (PSTT)
PSTT is a registered charity with a clear vision – we want to see excellent teaching of science in every primary classroom in the UK. We believe it is vital that children are engaged and inspired by science from an early age. We want to draw on their natural curiosity to help them explore, understand and ask questions about the world around them. Scientific skills and knowledge are essential for every child, whether or not they become a scientist, engineer or medic.
We’ve built a Primary Science Teacher College of over 200 outstanding Fellows, each helping to shape and influence science teaching across the UK. We produce great resources that improve how science is taught and planned, including through the award-winning Explorify website. We provide professional learning and development that supports thousands of schools each year, through our national CPD programme and our network of Regional Mentors across England.
Through our new strategy, we are refining PSTT’s approach (building our work around a clear definition of what excellence in primary science means), targeting our efforts (giving our most intensive support to schools and teachers that need it most) and focusing on the impact of our work. For more information on PSTT’s strategy, definition of excellence, and theory of change, visit our website.
